![]() If you're left handed, and prefer to run the charging handle off-handed, then a GI charging handle (and the standard Gunfighter, for that matter) will suck as you have to reach over. That Gen 1 Gunfighter has since moved from my SBR to my 16" gun, and a Gen 2 Gunfighter now lives on the SBR, Both have Mod 4 latches. I used to run a Badger latch on my previous ARs, but switched to a first generation Gunfighter a few years ago. It also eliminates the extra wear and strain on the right hand side of the long leg of the charging handle. The BCM/VLTOR Gunfighter fixes that issue by closing off the back end of the charging handle, and reshaping the internals to allow the latch itself to press directly against the rear of the CH body, and taking all of the stress off of that roll pin. This problem is exacerbated by use of drop-in oversize charging handles, like the Badger Latch. This will result in wear on the charging handle, and possibly separation of the two wings that hold the roll pin in place. If you're right handed, and using your left hand, palm open and facing you, to run back the charging handle it will put a lot of stress on the side of the handle body, and the tiny roll pin that holds the latch in place - not to mention be difficult to do with the tiny GI latch. I would disagree with the previous posts - depending on how you're taught to run an AR-15, there can be a LOT wrong with a standard charging handle. ![]()
